Are you a researcher recently awarded a doctoral degree, with a wish to continue your research in a field focusing on the applicability of LCA as a decision support in early development of chemicals, materials and products? Do you consider human toxicity and ecotoxicity indicators in LCA an interesting research topic? Then maybe you are our new colleague.

About the role

IVL manages the research programme Mistra SafeChem, where method development for chemical footprints (herein: LCA with strong focus on human toxicity and ecotoxicity) is one of the research tasks in an LCA oriented work package. The aim is to use LCA as a tool to monitor and reduce the exposure from hazardous chemicals. The specific objectives of the work package are:

• To further advance a life cycle based chemicals assessment toolbox developed during 2020-2024, and increase its utility to industry.
• To strengthen the link with the machine learning world to increase chemical space coverage.
• To increase focus on life cycle inventory (LCI) relevant for chemical footprints and by that reduce associated uncertainty.
• Develop prospective LCA methods applicable to a (re)design context with an aim to reduce exposure to hazardous chemicals.

This early career research position is intended as a task lead and main researcher for the programme activities on the further advancement of methods for assessing the toxicological potentials of product systems. This research is integrated in that of the wider work package activities.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in life cycle based chemicals assessment and a deep understanding of modelling. Extra merits would be machine learning, material science or experience from work with the concept Safe and Sustainable by Design. You are a true team player who likes to challenge and develop your ideas together with colleagues from different disciplines.
