Jobbannons

We are seeking a highly skilled Fluid Systems Engineer with deep expertise in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and systems engineering to join our dynamic, multicultural, and multidisciplinary team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, analysis, and optimization of critical fluid-based systems in nuclear power plants and reactor rigs, ensuring safe and efficient operation while maintaining strict compliance with nuclear safety and regulatory standards.

What we do at Blykalla

Blykalla is developing the next generation of nuclear technology with our Small Modular Reactor (SMR) based on innovative fuel, materials, and reactor designs. As Sweden’s only SMR developer, we are on a mission to decarbonize industries and enable safe, scalable, and sustainable energy solutions. Our technology uses uranium nitride fuel and lead coolant, creating novel challenges and opportunities for the fuel cycle and supporting systems.

What you’ll get to do

As a Fluid System Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, analyzing, and optimizing reactor cooling and auxiliary systems, ensuring safe and efficient operation across all stages of development. You’ll collaborate closely with experts across disciplines to deliver innovative and reliable solutions for our advanced nuclear technology. Your key responsibilities would be:

System Design & Analysis

  • Design, analyze, and optimize nuclear fluid systems, including reactor coolant, lead coolant, and hydraulic systems.
  • Conduct thermal-hydraulic modeling, flow and pressure analyses, and develop 0D/1D system models to predict performance.
  • Perform trade-off studies to optimize system efficiency, reliability, and cost.

Systems Engineering & Integration

  • Define and manage system requirements, interfaces, and architectures using MBSE methods.
  • Coordinate subsystem integration and maintain configuration control and technical documentation.

Safety, Verification & Risk Management

  • Conduct FMEA and reliability analyses, identify and mitigate technical risks.
  • Support the planning and execution of Verification & Validation (V&V) activities to ensure compliance with ASME BPVC, RCC-M, and ANSI standards.

Documentation & Collaboration

  • Develop and maintain documentation such as flow diagrams, P&IDs, and safety reports.
  • Collaborate with reactor, safety, and control engineers, and communicate technical concepts clearly to all stakeholders.

Operations & Continuous Improvement

  • Support testing, commissioning, and maintenance of fluid systems.
  • Contribute to upgrades and process improvements for enhanced performance and compliance.

Who you are

You will be part of a highly skilled team with a can-do attitude. We value personal chemistry and strive to create a workplace where you enjoy coming to. There are a few things that will help you succeed in this role:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in a similar position
  • Deep expertise in fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer principles
  • Proficiency in hydraulic modeling and simulation software (e.g., APROS, AFT, ASPEN, Flownex, Flomaster)
  • Knowledge of nuclear reactor coolant systems, heat exchangers, and steam turbines
  • Knowledge of systems engineering process development
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with meticulous attention to detail
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Meritorious skills

The following skills are not required but will be considered an advantage:

  • PhD in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline
  • INCOSE SEP (Systems Engineering Professional) certification
  • Experience with lead or other advanced coolants.
  • Familiarity with nuclear waste system design.
  • Field experience in commissioning or startup of industrial plants.
  • Familiarity with ASME BPVC, RCC-M, regulatory body requirements, and ANSI standards for nuclear fluid systems
  • Ability to build relationships and influence at all levels of the organization
  • Written and oral fluency in Swedish

Location

This position is based at our office in Stockholm.

So, what do you think?

Joining our team means being part of a supportive and innovative environment where your ideas are valued and your expertise is recognized. You will have the opportunity to work with industry leaders and contribute to the safe and sustainable use of nuclear power.
