About the role The key to create smart maintenance is the ability to assess the status of tool’s condition and the ability to predict the remaining lifespan. Consequently, the research will focus on measuring and modelling tool wear.

As a doctoral student, you will study wear mechanisms in MEGA casting toolings under supervision of leading casting experts at Jönköping University. This task is part of research of an industrial research school (m3c, funded by KK-Stiftelsen) which, in an interdisciplinary environment, focuses on the correlation between Microstructure, Mechanical properties, Manufacturing processes, and Components. It consist of a consortium of three Swedish universities and several strong industrial partners. Approximately ten talented industrial PhD students will pursue their studies in this school in collaboration with all partners. The position is located at Olofström or Mölndal.

Who are you? You are a student who is eager to acquire knowledge and tools to make the transition to a sustainable society. To qualify for this position, you must meet the general entry requirement for third-cycle studies: a completed degree at the second-cycle level, achieved at least 240 credits, of which a minimum of 60 credits must have been achieved at second-cycle level, or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge in Sweden or abroad. You have strong communication skills, proficient in both written and spoken English. Knowledge of Swedish is advantageous but not mandatory. It is essential that you have a degree and knowledge in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.

It is meritorious if you:

• have experience working in an international team environment with colleagues from both academy and industry
• are result-oriented, motivated, and willing to face challenges
• have hands-on experience with data analysis and model regression
• experience of applied industrial measurement technology
• experience of modelling and numerical simulation
• have experience publishing in a scientific journal
