Jobbannons

You will work at the intersection of hardware and software, contributing to a team-led effort to instrument and optimize our next-generation embedded silicon and software platforms. By diving deep into complex hardware-level behaviors, you will help build the frameworks that provide the engineering organization with actionable performance data. This is a hands-on role where your knowledge in both software and hardware domains enables us to optimize the broader platforms. Join us in building the core foundation that drives innovation and shapes the future of video and surveillance technology!

Who is your future team? You will join our Core Platform Internal Chips group, an important part of Axis' camera development. We contribute to imaging processing pipeline, radar, and power management development. Within this established organization, you will be a founding member of a new performance and observability team in its startup phase. This position allows you to drive innovation from the ground up while collaborating closely with the broader platform teams with the ability to quickly build a professional network across the company.

Our culture is built on transparency and openness. We believe that performance data is most powerful when it is shared, and we lean on collaborative knowledge exchange to solve our technical challenges.

What will you do here as an Embedded Software Engineer? The position is hands-on where you will be part of building up a new team and a new responsibility area. The responsibilities of the new group will be to;

  • Bridge HW and SW: Design and implement low-latency instrumentation within embedded software and kernel layers to capture critical hardware performance metrics.
  • Drive observability: Architect and maintain system-wide observability frameworks that provide real-time visibility into resource utilization, bottlenecks, and system health.
  • Build measurement tools: Develop specialized tools and automated pipelines for performance profiling and data collection.
  • System analysis: Analyze the interaction between software and silicon to identify performance regressions and architectural improvements.
  • Architectural insight: Convert raw telemetry into meaningful visualizations and reports that drive data-informed decisions across the engineering organization.

Who are we looking for? We are looking for a systems-thinking engineer who thrives at the intersection of silicon and software. You are someone who isn't satisfied with code that just 'works'; you have an innate drive to measure, profile, and understand exactly how it interacts with the underlying SoC architecture. By combining your knowledge of Linux kernel internals with a passion for building robust observability tools, you will act as the bridge that turns raw hardware metrics into actionable insights that define our next generation of surveillance systems.

At Axis, collaboration is our starting point. It is important that you contribute with good spirit and embrace the different agile working methodologies used in our teams. You are an energetic and dedicated person with a strong personal drive and an ability to work unsupervised.

We'd love to hear that you have/are

  • Education: A Master's degree in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Embedded: Solid experience in C/C++ development for resource-constrained environments, including embedded Linux kernel and RTOS'es. Scripting/automation with Python, bash.
  • Development workflow: Proficient with modern CI/CD and version control workflows, specifically Git, Gerrit, and Jenkins.
  • Architecture: Deep understanding of hardware/software co-design, including CPU/GPU/NPU architectures, memory management, scheduling, and memory bandwidth contention.
  • Observability tools: Experience with the Linux "performance tools" ecosystem, including eBPF, LTTng, perf, systrace, as well as using hardware performance counters and profiling frameworks.
  • Data-driven mindset: Passion for building internal tools that simplify complex system data into clear, actionable performance metrics.
  • Systems thinker: Ability to move seamlessly from detailed debugging to optimizing the performance of an entire product platform.
