Due to our continued growth, we are now recruiting for Design Engineers – Interior Trims & Material, to strengthen our team in Gothenburg.

The role

The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for Floor Systems and Luggage compartment systems product development, and details product design according to standards and guidelines. Translate defined product design performance criteria in CAD data & specifications.

This role focuses on the engineering and design aspect, working for an automotive manufacturer to develop new interior components within Floor systems and Luggage compartment. The engineer ensures that designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and meet all regulatory standards.

Area of Responsibility

This position is responsible for new design and development of interior trim components like Floor and Luggage compartment components like carpets, absorbents, insulations, load floor etc. Should be able to produce engineering design and concepts into 3D model using CATIA V5.

• Conceptualize and design: Create concepts for Floor and Luggage compartment components like carpets, absorbents, insulations, load floor and some plastic parts, aligning with vehicle architecture and style.
• CAD modelling: Independently create 3D models and 2D drawings using advanced computer-aided design (CAD) software such as CATIA and Team centre.
• Collaborate on feasibility: Work with manufacturing, engineering, and supply chain teams to ensure the design is feasible for production and assembly.
• Material selection: Collaborate with materials specialists to choose appropriate materials for durability, aesthetics, and cost.
• Optimize and test: Refine and optimize designs based on packaging, cost, and weight considerations. Provide support for physical and virtual validation tests.
• Ensure compliance: Verify that all designs meet requirements, regulations and industry standards.
• Document and manage: Release drawings and models and maintain a Bill of Materials (BOM).
• Complete ownership of Design and development of interior trim, Create Master sections considering Tooling Feasibilities leading and progressing the design in line with the program timescales and deliverable cadence 3D& 2D (CATIA V5)
• Ensure Standard methodologies are followed to meet Regulatory, Safety & Quality requirements.
• To be able to assign and get the work done from team members effectively.
• Should able to lead the design reviews with cross functional teams & lead engineers.
• Adequate knowledge of plastic moulding and design process, DFMEA, DVP, DFA/DFM.
• Knowledge of GD&T, component drawings, Standards and Guidelines etc.
• Ensuring that the all project deliverables is met at given time with Dashboard document.
• Identifying all risks of the programme and make appropriate capitalization documents (Lessons learned, Technical Reports) to feed/improve Design and Development standards and guidelines.

Knowledge / Experience

• Education: Bachelor's or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 5-8 years of automotive product engineering experience required specifically in automotive Interior trim system and component design.
• Extensive experience in using CATIA V5, Team Centre (Tce)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Good Knowledge of and/or training in:
• Global interior trim regulations
• Plastic injection moulding processes (both tooling and design)
• Interior parts specific manufacturing requirement
• Design and development knowledge of Floor and Luggage compartment trim such as carpets, absorbents, insulations, load floor etc.
• Working knowledge of project delivery processes.
• Working experience with global OEM cross functional teams will be an added advantage.
• Manufacturing knowledge: Understanding of manufacturing processes, particularly for plastics and composite materials.
• Team collaboration: The ability to collaborate with cross-functional and global teams to resolve technical issues.
• Should be good Team player with positive attitude & good approach.
