This Position reports to: R&D Unit Lead.

Your role and responsibilities (Mandatory)

Are you interested in shaping the next generation of high-quality, scalable and modular power electronics technologies within ABB’s Electrification business area? Would you like to apply your expertise in a challenging and fascinating environment in a global and diverse company?

Then, join our team of highly motivated engineers as a (senior) R&D engineer for power electronics hardware development, and contribute to the foundations of next-generation ABB products. You will contribute creative ideas to product realization initiatives and propose innovative development projects addressing customer specific requirements. We provide an agile, dynamic workplace and you will be part of a cross-functional agile team embedded in a global network of collaborating teams.

We expect that you show a high motivation, hands-on attitude as well as taking initiative to come up with new ideas that tackle today’s challenges.

• You monitor technology development and product technologies to identify technical drivers for R&D projects, supported by your thorough understanding of key business drivers for ABB’s products and solutions.
• You innovate power electronics for interruption and switching by scouting new technologies, designing, prototyping and validating new concepts deployable across ELSP in the long-term.
• You drive the alignment of electronics solutions with mechanical aspects to meet size & thermal constraints. Furthermore, you drive integration with firmware requirements.
• Your tasks include creation of schematics and definition of constraints for PCB layout, definition of verification specifications and execution of verification activities of your designs by simulation and prototype testing, as well as documentation and handover of the developed technologies with subsequent implementation support to product development teams.
• You take responsibility for hardware development activities, as senior member, including risk identification, alignment with targets, and close coordination with suppliers and other functions (e.g. product management).
• You contribute to discussions of intellectual property and secure patent rights for ABB by driving the IP creation.
• You participate in internal and external networks to expand your knowledge of your area of expertise.

Qualifications for the role

• M.Sc. or PhD degree in Electronic Engineering, or comparable field
• At least 5 years of experience in technology development of power electronics solutions ideally in an industrial context
• Sound knowledge in designing electronic circuits, circuit diagrams, and working with simulation tools
• Strong cross-functional skills to ensure integration with mechanics and firmware
• Knowledge in thermal & signal / power integrity (SI/PI) would be considered a plus
• Ability to work in an international context with peers and stakeholders is various global locations
• Willingness to travel internationally (~10%)
• Fluency in English (written and spoken) is essential; Swedish language skills are beneficial but not a prerequisite.
